Many didn’t expect a modest Manitoban to one day become a shapeshifting sonic astronaut - yet despite any doubts, Tyler Del Pino has landed. A multi-instrumentalist music teacher with a degree in classical trumpet and a flair for modern music production, it was inevitable that horns were calling. Tyler Del Pino’s early work stood one foot in and one foot out of country, but it was never quite equipped for liftoff. A more fully formed vision of Tyler Del Pino emerged Out of a Clear Blue Sky, an increasingly The Trews-esque rock-leaning set with flickers of country and Americana flanked by propulsive horns, its rebellious spirit taking notes from Sam Fender and Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. After searching the cosmos for a capable crew, Del Pino located them, they learned their mission - the Brasstronautz were ready.
Things change when you get older, have a family, priorities shift and new ones are born. Out of a Clear Blue Sky was inspired by life’s struggles and wonders, juxtaposing bright tones and big choruses against brooding builds, darker inclinations and thought-provoking social commentary, progressing from the starry-eyed narratives of Del Pino’s earlier work into something honouring and cathartic.
Out of a Clear Blue Sky is another striking showcase of Del Pino’s honed production, dynamic songwriting and versatile musicianship, spreading his skills across banjo, piano, mandolin, guitar, and that mighty brass section. Penning everything from his evolving signature sound to producing flavourful funk, soul, glossy pop and beyond for other artists (eg. Super Duty Tough Work, Kendra Kay, Jessica Pearson and the East Wind) from his own TDP Studios, Del Pino’s chameleonic creativity lives for the infectiousness of timeless tunes.
For the first time as a full band this year, Tyler Del Pino and the Brasstronautz ventured to Western Canada, taking their stellar dispatches and exciting live show on the road. Del Pino was nominated for the 2022 Music Production Award (London, UK) and Album of the Year (In The End) and Male Artist of the Year from the 2021 MCMA Awards. He hosts and curates Nashville Manitoba, a monthly writers' round that showcases local rising talent.
